No way!
What's so bad about being human, anyway? As long as you try to get along with other races, it shouldn't matter. We don't really know what we're up against right now, so wouldn't it be safer and better to make as many allies as you can? If you say right off the bat that you don't like a type of person, you're making it harder for yourself.

Well, that's what I think, anyway. I like being human and I like talking with everyone.

It is my experience that humans concern themselves only with their own petty pleasures. They murder, cheat and step on others to achieve personal happiness. They are all weak.

What races are you used to, besides humans?

Because a lot of humans don't. Personally, there are some humans I can trust...and a lot that aren't anywhere near worth it.

Not that xenians are free from prejudice, either. Or Remade, for that matter...but they're rarer. Humans tend to be the most hateful. The ones that would keep others enslaved. It's telling that the ruling class, at least here in New Crobuzon, has always been human...and has always kept the fReemade and xenians down.

I guess I don't really understand that. Where I grew up, it was humans who were enslaved by people who called themselves Desians. I think anyone has the power to make another person's life miserable, regardless of if they're human or not. And there are a lot of humans who would want to put an end to the suffering, too.

There are some who are prejudiced against humans, because they have a stereotypical human example in mind. They might have met humans who caused them harm, more than once. By encountering an assorty of 'bad' humans and never seeing the good side, they automatically assume that all humans are like this and refuse to trust them.

I know all of that. I know that Genis and the professor weren't even allowed in Heimdall at first because they were half-elves.

Knowing what it is doesn't make it more correct.

Typical Lloyd.

Let's take a look at Genis, hmm? If he'd been brought up all alone somewhere, he wouldn't hate humans, or elves, or half-elves or anything else. But he was raised in an area where humans were prejudiced against him - it's no wonder he gets frustrated in return.

But why did the humans treat him like that? Because their parents did, and their parents before that, and so on. Discrimination is mostly a product of society. It'll probably take a long time to really stop. In fact, it might just never go away.
[info]never_sacrifice wrote:

It's a learned behavior, right? If that's the truth, why aren't people teaching others not to discriminate?

I'm going to chime in to make a break on the human bashing for now.

I think they're pretty impressive. You'll find humans just about anywhere you go. Resilient and stubborn... but those are just two of the traits that I love about them.

You can see many many sorts of creatures through the ages- but one thing's for sure. Humans tend to beat the odds and keep going, no matter what.

I just want to say for you guys to stay that way.

Ershin says that this experience is concurrent with Ershin's own. Ershin says that on numerous occasions, the humans - as well as the Woren, the Wyndians, and the other mortal races - have impressed her with their ability to work effects beyond what one would expect of a single mortal, or a small group working in concert. Ershin says that it is the special quality of the mortal kinds to always strive, and to often work startling effects from humble beginnings.

Ershin clarifies, however: this is not always a positive quality. Ershin says that she has seen great kindnesses and good works done by this method, but Ershin says that the mortal races are also capable of startling effectiveness in cruelty and pettiness. Ershin says that it is the way of mortals to focus upon the narrow realms of their interest. She says that this does not always lead to a wretched state of mind, but says that it is typically the cause when one arises. She remarks upon the irony of the definition humans use for their word "inhumanity." I do not understand.

Ershin says that while it requires a great deal of patience at times, regardless all that can be done is to attempt to guide and assist the mortal kinds when necessary. Ershin admits that it can be rewarding at times.

Humans are so funny. They do such surprising things sometimes.
